First off, let me start by saying I don’t want this blog to turn into an anti-Richt gazette. With that being said, he leaves me no choice but to blast him again. But before we get to the many negatives of Saturday’s game let us first focus on the positives. As bad as Greyson Lambert was, and believe me he was REALLY, REALLY BAD, he did one thing better. Instead of looking down his primary target, Lambert actually spread the ball around a little better. I was getting so sick and tired of Lambert looking down Malcolm Mitchell the entire play and then throwing to him, he improved a little bit in this facet of the game. The only other positive is that Terry Godwin emerged as a real threat, and should be an extraordinary player going forward. Well….. that will do it for the positives. Yeah, I’m not one of those Georgia fans that is going to point out how good the defense played, considering we were playing the WORST offense in the SEC. In fact, Missouri ranks 125th in total offense in the entire nation. In case you didn’t know, there are only 127 FBS football teams in the country. So to say our defense looked good is the same as saying, “man that 85 Bears defense would look real good against the 2015 UGA offense.” There is still a ton of laziness on the defensive side of the ball, and laziness is only fixed by coaching. The offensive line is TOTAL garbage!! Going into this season the offensive line as a unit was ranked in the top 5 of pretty much every pre-season magazine and was considered by many the biggest strength of our team, it is now the biggest weakness of our team (ok, maybe Lambert has that spot locked up). We’re starting to see just how good Chubb made the offensive line look. It’s not as though UGA has no talent or experience on the offensive line, it is in fact the contrary, we have plenty of both. Which brings me to my next point. Sony Michel has a lot of work to do as far as being a good tailback is concerned. Don’t get me wrong, as bad as Mizzou’s offense is, their defense is one of the best in the country. In fact Mizzou’s total defense is ranked 8th in the entire country and their rush defense is ranked 21st. However, Sony is having a lot of trouble reading defenses pre-snap and once the ball is snapped he has a hard time seeing the holes. In his defense, the offensive line sucks, but we discussed that earlier. And as good as Mizzou’s defense is they still allowed 34 points to Southeast Missouri State, and 21 points to Kentucky, a team that UGA still has to play. So….if Southeast Missouri State can score 4 touchdowns against Mizzou and we can’t even muster 1 where do we stand? I’ll tell you……the SEWER!
Now on to Richt. Man oh man….it appears that Richt can definitely hear the grumblings coming out of Athens. Never has a coach made it more obvious that he is very nervous about his job. The first indication of Richts nervousness is that he appeared to nag at the refs a little more than he usually does, probably because he read so many articles that claimed he has no fire, never yells at the refs, never gets excited, he’s always fixing his hair instead of getting fired up, etc. etc. The second indication was when Richt goes for it on 4th and short on the 50 yard line, but then kicks a field goal on 4th and short on the 20 yard line. I understand Richt is vying for his job, but maybe he should be a little smarter about when he takes gambles. But the biggest indication that RIcht is feeling the pressure is his ‘lovey’ pep talk to Marshall Morgan. I don’t fault the guy for giving Marshall Morgan a pep talk, and even telling the guy that he loves him, but then talking about it over and over again postgame and using it as some bargaining chip to verify how much he cares about his players is a little absurd. First of all, it was a tie game when Richt gave this pep talk, so it wasn’t as if Morgan missed the thing that the game was over, especially considering the way Mizzou plays offense. Secondly, in Richt’s postgame presser he starts rambling about how some players don’t feel loved, and they should never fell like this….this was very, very ODD! Mark Richt needs to understand that he doesn’t have to prove to Georgia fans that he cares about his players, we all get that, he needs to prove to Georgia fans that he can coach football!!
Now we’ll focus our attention to the Florida Gators, who have two weeks to prepare for us just as we have two weeks to prepare for them. We’ll see who the better coach is…….
